Use this Size 0 Carbide Oil Groove Mill Cutter to cut properly designed oil grooves into a gib or slideway surface that has a width of up to 25 mm. The Cutter has been designed to cut a 2 mm wide and 0.5 mm deep oil groove that has rounded leading edges. The rounded leading edges promote a lubricant wedge between the grooved surface and its mating surface, and prevent scraping of oil from the fixed or stationary surface. If the pattern and dimensions of such an oil groove have been correctly designed, the lubricant wedge will cause oil to be squeezed out of the groove and to be spread uniformly over the entire bearing area.

Size 0 Carbide Oil Groove Mill Cutter

The Size 0 Carbide Oil Groove Mill Cutter is made from uncoated micro-grain tungsten carbide. This allows the Cutter to machine materials that have a Rockwell hardness of up to HRC 58.

The Cutter has two flutes that each have a helix angle of 10 degrees. This geometry along with the Cutter’s tungsten carbide construction make the Cutter particularly suitable for milling cast iron and steel.

Using this Cutter you can produce an oil groove in a slideway or gib surface according to Czech Standard ON 01 5934.
